We toured the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer, Alaska. Our tour guide, Dani, was a wealth of knowledge and demonstrated much enthusiasm and love for this mammal and the musk ox of this farm. These animals are much more playful than one expects. To be close to these creatures gave us an appreciation for them. All four of us fed them, and the animal lover of our group pet one. He petted Malachite, the trouble maker (fitting, right?). This farm does some great work with this herd of 83. They are raising them to be domesticated so that their fur can be combed. The fur, qiviut, is then made into yarn. This yarn is then knitted by Alaskan native villagers to sell their creations for income.
