Don't know how we did it, but we made the drive from Johnson Crossing all the way to Anchorage in one long day! Amazing views passing through Whitehorse, Haines Junction, and through the (annual) construction to Beaver Creek, then finally the border and a gas stop at Border City, Alaska. The road is familiar and it was a beautiful day with the Wrangell-St. Elias Range in full view, the occasional glimpses of spectacular glaciers, Gunsight Mountain, Sheep Mountain, and finally the winding drive along the Matanuska River into Palmer. Past the Fairgrounds and down the Glenn Highway to arrive at our destination in Anchorage early in the summer evening. 8 Days on the road, 3800 miles under our belts, many beautiful, unforgettable images seared into our minds and plans for more trips, more places to visit on the way on another trip North (or south).
