We drove up a narrow, winding, steep, unpaved road about 20 km to an overview of the Salmon Glacier. As we stood there looking out at the mountains around us, it felt like we were on top of the world. Almost every mountain peak around us had a glacier on it. We looked down on the Salmon Glacier which was miles wide and flowing like a river. It came straight at us then made a sharp right turn. Clouds drifted below and above us. The glacier was about 500 feet below us. We even spotted a marmot sitting on a rock outcropping watching us. It was exciting.
