The Klondike gold rush of 1898-1900 centered around Dawson City. The tailings left from the diggings are piled along the roadside for miles before you even get into town. This place swelled from 400 people to 30,000 in the day. It must have been something to see. The mounties kept law and order so you didn't see the kind of lawlessness that you saw in the U.S.
