On a Mission to Find the Missions

Today, headed back to the Yukon Territory, Canada. Our plan is to visit/see some of the sites we didn't see in our way up to Alaska. Thanks to "Hawkeye Richard," we had our first up close and personal encounter with a moose! This was in the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge, a 730,000 acre refuge that provides habitat for 126 nesting species and 42 mammals, including moose, black & grizzly bears, wolf, coyotes, beaver, red fox, lynx & caribou. There are three Catholic missions on the north Alaska Highway. We are overnighting in Beaver Creek & visited the first of the three missions, Our Lady of Grace Church, built in 1961 from a salvaged Quonset hut leftover from the days of construction of the Alaska Highway. Tomorrow, on our way to Whitehorse, we hope to visit the two other missions. One of these is the most photographed church in the Yukon. Stay tuned...
