Above the arctic circle, the sun never sets on the first day of summer. We decided to do a guided tour of the Arctic Circle mainly because of the road conditions. Allan was our tour guide. We left Fairbanks at 6:30 AM and returned at 9:30 PM-a very full day.We followed the pipeline north on Dalton Highway. We drove through forest fire smoke, stopped at Joy and met some interesting natives, learned about the permafrost and the problems it creates, stopped at the Yukon River for lunch and a salmon dinner on the way home. We also met Mary who had lived there over 35 years. We fianlly reached the Arctic Circle and celebrated with choclate cake. We got to see a moose with two calves onthe way back.
