We set out bright and early to go to Lake Louise (about 25 miles from Banff). It is a good thing we did, because we got there in time to see the lake in the sunshine just a few minutes before the rain started. Lake Louise, and especially this spot, is said to be the most photographed place in the Canadian Rockies, so of course we had to have our picture taken there too! And, yes, the water really is that color.
After the photography session, we hiked about halfway down the side of the lake but a dark cloud soon obscured the glacier and part of the lake. We turned back and took shelter in the Lake Louise Hotel. After the rain subsided we took a ride up to Maraine Lake, then had lunch in Lake Louise Village. We took the slower route back to Banff by the Bow River Parkway where we saw deer.
