50,000 Silver Dollar Bar, Haugan, Montana
An interesting stop on the drive from Butte, Montana to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Needing a break from Interstate 80 for a while, we stopped in this colorful bar/store/restaurant/motel/gas stop/museum which is unique for its extensive (and still growing) collection of silver dollars which decorate the ceiling, walls and surface of the bar. The place has all sorts of gift items and Montana souvenirs, and very friendly folks working there (all or most, it seems to me, members of the Lincoln family that started the place in 1952). There are well over 50,000 coins left by visitors whose names are written beneath each one.
