Even though it was cloudy and spritzing rain we decided to take the Portage Glacier Cruise. This was a very nice one hour cruise aboard the MV Ptarmigan, and we enjoyed it in spite of the weather. It was nice and warm in the cabin, and a ranger on board gave us a lot of information about the glacier and the surrounding areas. The boat gets within 1/4 mile of the glacier, and small icebergs float in the lake around the boat. Other glaciers are also seen during the trip.
We are learning so much about glaciers on this trip. There are so many differences in them depending on their location and size. Each one is different from the other, but all are fascinating!
