Carcross Desert

Known as the world’s smallest desert, the one-square-mile Carcross Desert is a great photo stop and a place to stretch your legs while learning more about the area. A brand new attraction in the area, Carcross Commons, presents the area’s gold-rush history along with that of the Tlingit and Tagish people who have called the region home for thousands of years. Watch live totem-carving demonstrations or visit Skookum Jim House, which honors the Tagish man co-credited with making the gold discovery that led to the Klondike Gold Rush.
