We are three active retired couples from San Diego, California, traveling in diesel motorhomes with tow vehicles, who have the whole summer to explore the wonders of Alaska. This is the 3rd trip for one of the couples and the others are Alaska virgins, eager to experience this unique land. We will cover the entire Fairbanks/Anchorage loop, the Kenai Peninsula, and any other side roads that strike our fancy. We will stay in RV parks, city parks, and dry camp in the boondocks. We will sample everything we can – wildlife viewing, museums, tourist attractions, restaurants, hiking, maybe even some fishing, glacier boat tours, and grizzly fly-in excursions – and share it all with you as we go.
For the tekkies, we will be communicating using a Dell XPS laptop, a Motorola Droid, and a Verizon USB 3G modem attached to a Cradlepoint wi-fi router. We will keep you informed about the coverage in Alaska. In Canada we will rely on public wi-fi, as $2500/gigabyte for data on our standard plan is a bit above our travel budget.
Tomorrow we enter British Columbia, Canada, and our North to Alaska adventure will officially begin.
