Hiked Willow Hole Trail via the Boy Scout Trail. Slight downward path to a low point in the park (~7 mile round trip but a difficult hike due to walking in deep sand for about a mile of the hike). At the willow hole not only was there water, in one shaded crevasse there was ice! Very cool place, very typical in this NP, with giant boulders just sticking out of the ground. The whole area was a playground for boulder hopping and climbing, not to mention the abundance of greenery in the low oasis. Next we were off to the Lost Horse Mine, one of the few mines that sustained operation in the early 1900’s. A guy was looking for his lost horse and found this mine! This was a 5 miler with lots of hikers. Finally we ended the day with a visit to Keys View Overlook, with views is the San Andreas Fault, Mt Jacinto and Mt Gorgonio. Unfortunately the clouds and smog that rolls in frequently from LA pretty much robbed us of the Mountain View’s. We did spot a wild coyote on our way up to the Overlook.
